Mental Health

Promoting mental health and wellbeing across our community

Created in 2020, the Imagined Futures Mental Health initiative was founded in response to widespread concerns about increasing numbers of people experiencing mental ill health because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even before COVID-19 increasing rates of mental illness were a concern in our community with depression being one of the most commonly experienced forms of mental illness.  Before the pandemic, the Black Dog Institute estimated that 1 in 7 people experience the condition in their lifetime.

After the emergence of COVID-19 this staggering number of people has worsened. Crisis support agencies have reported a surge in demand with calls to their services increasing by more than 20% as compared to pre-COVID times.  Imagined Futures is tackling this concerning trend by adopting a proven, community-led framework called the Alliance Against Depression (AAD).
