IFAAD Community Toolkit – Mental Health Education

The Imagined Futures Alliance Against Depression (IFAAD) Community Toolkit, is designed to present a localised overview of the AAD model’s community education approach. It is intended to be a reference for local training providers so that they may include this information within their existing training packages if there is an opportunity to do so.

When promoting education activities in the community the AAD is seeking to:

  • raise awareness of the AAD’s key messages
  • equip community members with skills to encourage their family and friends to seek help
  • provide information about local supports and resources

Imagined Futures – Keeping Kids Engaged in School program model

Keeping Kids Engaged in School is the flagship project for the Imagined Futures Youth Initiative Working Group.  The program has been shown to be successful in helping to facilitate children and young people’s desire to stay at school, foster their sense of belonging, building resilience and supporting their transition to, and engagement with, high school.  In 2021 Imagined Futures  documented the program principles/model to enable expansion of the program within our region and to inform others who would like  to replicate the program in their own regions.

A copy of the program model can be found here.

IF and Lakelands High School team up to support students at home

One strategy toward containing the COVID-19 outbreak in Western Australia was the recommendation that, if possible, students should remain at home.  In response to this directive Imagined Futures designed the ‘At Home Workbook’  in collaboration with Lakeland Senior High School. The workbook was created with the aim of supporting students at Lakeland Senior High School during isolation. The focus was to create an opportunity for all students, in particular those that do not have access to internet or computers at home, to be engaged in fun and educational activities, that aim to promote pro social behaviours and to benefit mental and physical well being.

The Youth Initiative working group, a sub group of Imagined Futures, aims to keep kids engaged in schools by supporting leadership, wellbeing and emotional resilience programs in schools, along with projects such as the ‘At Home Workbook’ that can cater for diverse support needs of students  and schools.  The workbook is freely available and can be accessed here – AT HOME WORK BOOK final
